Oscar Lopez to receive honorary degree at UPD commencement rites
Oscar M. Lopez
Oscar M. Lopez, chairman emeritus of the Lopez Holdings Corporation and the First Philippine Holdings Corporation, will be conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at the 101st General Commencement Exercises of the University of the Philippines Diliman.
The rite will be held on April 22, 3 p.m. at the University Amphitheater.
Lopez will receive the university’s highest academic distinction for his “distinguished service to learning and to humankind through his lifelong passion for biodiversity conservation which fires his generous support for research in the biological sciences, thereby helping strengthen the science of plant taxonomy, tropical forest ecology, and wildlife biology in our country.” Read more

To establish a common reference for all our official activities in the future, the Office of the Chancellor will use the time appearing in http://time.upd.edu.ph as the official standard time for UP Diliman effective immediately.
I request all offices to synchronize their clocks immediately with the official UP Diliman time.

Incentives for UPD’s highest recognition increased

It was the leanest crop in the recent years: only nine UP Diliman constituents received the Gawad Chanselor, the university’s highest recognition for excellence in performance, at ceremonies held February 24 at the NISMED Auditorium. Of the nine, five were from the College of Science. Read more

(March 7)—For the retirees, it wasn’t so much a recounting of the past as it was a peek at the future during the annual Parangal sa mga Retirado at Gawad Paglilingkod held last February 23 at the NISMED auditorium. The ceremony honors the achievements and lives of UPD employees who retired in the period from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. Read more

(March 7)—The UP Integrated School’s Boy and Girl Scouts held a parade around the academic oval on February 21 as a kick off celebration of the Linggo ng Parangal, the annual recognition of achievements of outstanding UP faculty, personnel and students. Read more
UPDP has a new patrol vehicle
(March 6)—The UP Diliman Police (UPDP) received a brand new Toyota Vios, a donation from the National Center for Transportation Studies Foundation, Inc. (NCTSFI), on February 29 in front of Quezon Hall. Read more
